South African Women for Women will hold its Eighth Annual Awards Ceremony and Luncheon/Show, on Sunday, August 8th, 2004, in celebration of South African Women's Day 2004. The awards will be presented from 12:00pm, at the Elgin Theater, 189 Yonge Street, Toronto. The entertainment was performed by the cast from South Africa - "UMOJA ". The Keynote Speaker was Rev. Mpho Tutu, Daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mrs. Leah Tutu. Mpho Tutu received The 2004 Woman of Distinction Award.

This annual award is in honour of South African Women's Day commemorating the day in 1956 when women from all parts of the country marched on the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the law forcing Black women to carry passes. The sacrifices of these women have allowed the women of South Africa to regain their dignity and achieve recognition globally. "These Awards recognize the determined optimism and the impact this can have in communities, in schools, in hospitals, in cities and villages throughout the country," said South African Women for Women President, Carole Adriaans. This was also the year that we celebrated the 10th year of liberation in South Africa.
