Visit of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Leah Tutu in Toronto: September 17th to 21st, 2002

The Phelophepa Health Care Train is a 16-coach health care train that travels to 37 of the most remote villages in South Africa providing health care services and education to people in need – primarily women and children – who do not otherwise have access to the most basic health care. The name Phelophepa is a combination of Tswana and Sotho words meaning "good clean health." The Phelophepa was launched in 1994 with just three coaches – today, it is a 600-ton, 16-coach train.

Hoffmann – La Roche Limited, the first global, corporate sponsor of the Phelophepa Health Care Train, and was the presenting sponsor of the gala dinner in Toronto. In honour of the company's ongoing generosity and commitment to the train since 1994, the health clinic coach was officially renamed the Roche Health Clinic.
